Plain stories from a retired diner owner — No hype, no jargon, no nonsense

A note from Kevin Webster — Allentown, PA

Real stories.
Plain talk.
No fancy promises.

I ran a diner for 30 years. I closed it in 2022 when my back finally gave out. Now I write down the things I used to say to my regulars over a cup of coffee — mostly about money, mostly for folks my age who are tired of being sold to.

I named the site after my daughter, Celestia.

She's the one who told me to start writing things down. "Dad," she said, "you talk to half the town at that counter. Someone should be keeping track of what you say."

So here I am. I spend my mornings at the senior center and my Saturdays at the golf club. I talk to folks just like you — retired teachers, ex-factory workers, neighbors watching their pension fall short. And every so often, one of them figures something out that actually works.

When that happens, I write it down and I share it. That's the whole thing. No guru stuff. No courses. No laptop-on-the-beach nonsense. Just a 64-year-old who's watched enough neighbors lose enough money to fast-talking marketers to know what's real and what isn't.

A plain email, a few times a week.

  • Small, true storiesAbout real people — Margaret, George, Carl — and what they figured out. I change the names sometimes, but the situations are real.
  • No tech talk, no jargonIf I can't explain it the way I'd explain it to someone at the diner counter, I don't write about it.
  • Honest tips on extra incomeThe kind that fits around your life. Nothing that requires hours of training or spending money you don't have.
  • My honest opinion when something's worth your timeI don't get paid to recommend things I wouldn't tell a regular to try. If I wouldn't say it at the counter, it doesn't go in the email.

What readers are saying

I've signed up for probably a dozen of these online things over the years. Kevin's emails are the only ones I actually read. They feel like a letter from someone who actually gets it.

Margaret T. — Ohio

I'm 71, not much of a computer person. Kevin writes like a normal human being. No confusing stuff. Just honest. My wife reads them now too.

Carl B. — Pennsylvania

Been following Kevin for a while now. No nonsense, no pressure, no hype. When he says something is worth trying, it usually is. That's rare online.
